HOCUS POCUS!

Happy Halloween!

This year, I became a little obsessed in making spell books. Partly because my daughter was one of the Sanderson sisters from the movie, Hocus Pocus. There is a famous spell book in the movie and of course she needed it....and hence, an old biology book was transformed...

My point of reference was from this very crafty you-tuber called Sea Lemon. She was very simple in her execution of the book and that was what I needed. A cut ping pong ball becomes the eye and air dry clay becomes the silvery embellishments. What I found so incredible was how a simple paper towel became the "skin" on the book. Here's her link if you would like to create your own:

It was the piece de resistance for the girls! I have to say, they looked so authentic!

Upon completion, I was on a roll and wound up making these these:

Dollar Tree sells hardcover books and so I grabbed a few...basically I sprayed the pages with water to let them crinkle and with paper towels, tissue paper, Modge Podge, paint, and scrapbook supplies, you can do anything. The wand is simply a chopstick with hot glue on the top and painted. A remnant from my son's Harry Potter party a few years ago. Tying it all together was this apothecary jar project courtesy of Pinterest.

These books were a great addition to the Potions Mantle that I've done for last few years.

These jars and bottles have been collected over time at Michaels, Home Goods, and various other craft stores. I was particularly lucky at Tuesday Morning if you have one by you and they are all relatively cheap! Candles and tea lights in different colors add a great effect.

No one was safe when it came to spell book making. At one point I was thinking of incorporating my son into the theme and was going to make a spell book costume for him. Suffice to say, he ran for the hills. Was it because I had a huge box and a glue gun in my hand? Hmmm....possibly! He completely went a different route and he and my nephew became the Bob Ross team...happy tree included! It was actually hilarious!

However, I channeled my extra energy into candy making as I always do. I made these spell books by dipping Rice Krispy treats into chocolate and adding sprinkles and candy eyes. I came across edible ink at Michaels which I turned into paintings on white chocolate canvases.

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! If you want any of the recipes and or information regarding the spell books please contact me.

I'm currently looking up a spell that would instantly transform me to a hammock in Bora Bora to sip a drink the colors of a tropical sunset...I'll let you know if it works!

Till next time...
